Functionality 4.5/5

Psiphon has a range of servers at its disposal. It masks your IP with one of its servers. Once you are connected, you can surf the sites that accessible in the chosen country. Psiphon servers are located in Canada, Spain, Germany, UK, Japan, India, Netherlands, Singapore and US. New servers are regularly added, so you always have a backup if current one gets blocked.

Psiphon offers three tunneling protocols - SSH (Secure Shell Protocol), SSH+ (SSH protocol with a random layer on top for protection against protocol fingerprinting) and L2TP/IPSec (secured protocol used by various VPN services).

The tool hides your activity from your ISP as each server сontains a certificate and the connection between the user and the server is encrypted. But Psiphon does not guarantee anonymity. The company shares metadata about visited sites and countries they are visited from, they keep logs of timestamps. They don’t collect data like email addresses or IPs and use security protocols, it doesn’t offer the protection of online privacy.

Design 5/5

Psiphon Windows client has a simple and minimalistic interface. It has a menu on the left with the key features: your connection status, settings, logs, language and feedback. It’s intuitive and easy to manage.

Usability 5/5

Psiphon Windows client comes as a 5MB self-executable file. No installation is required - you just download the file from the official website and launch the program. There is also an option to get Psiphon file via email. The tool comes with a user guide to introduce you to the program's main features

Psiphon provides a one-click access - you just tap a big green button “Connect” to make a connection with Psiphon server. The connection is automatically made through the fastest server, but you can choose a desirable region in the field below the button.

The connection is stable but lacks speed. However, it’s primary purpose is to provide access to the censored sites, not to download movies.

Price

Psiphon is an open source, so it’s completely free. No fees, no subscriptions.

Cross-platform use 4/5

Psiphon works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 (desktop) and an app for Android is available in the Play Store. There are no versions for Mac OS or iOS.

Conclusion

Psiphon is an excellent circumvention tool to help you bypass restrictions and censorship. It’s simple and straightforward and provides instant access. Note, that it doesn’t enhance your security protection and keeps your logs.
